Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren says Israel still needs American support as President Donald Trump proposes ending U.S. military funding to the country.

In a Wednesday interview, Oren discussed Trump's plan to cut roughly $4 billion in annual military aid and the security concerns facing Israel amid tensions in the region. Watch his comments in the video below.

Trump said Tuesday that the funding should end by the close of the year, while Israel would still be able to buy American weapons. The announcement did not spell out how the change would be carried out.

The existing U.S.-Israel assistance agreement provides $3.8 billion a year through fiscal 2028. Trump's proposal is not the same as a completed cutoff, and the timing and terms of any change remain unclear.
