Walmart plans to add 300 Zipline drone delivery sites across the United States under a new multiyear agreement, sharply expanding a partnership that currently has 21 active sites.

The expansion comes as Zipline announced a $1.5 billion funding round that values the company at $21.5 billion. Reports say the company plans to use the money to expand U.S. manufacturing and hire workers for a nationwide drone delivery network.

Walmart's wider drone delivery program has completed more than 2 million deliveries. That total covers the retailer's program, rather than only its deliveries with Zipline.

Customers whose addresses are within range can see drone delivery as an option through Walmart's app or website. Eligible addresses can also place Walmart orders through the Zipline app.

Zipline's home delivery system keeps the aircraft above the delivery location while a separate pod lowers the order on a tether. The companies have worked together since 2021.
