Two people were hospitalized after a helicopter carrying three people crashed into Biscayne Bay near Key Biscayne on Wednesday, authorities said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said two adult trauma patients were taken from the crash area to a landing zone and then flown to a trauma center. Officials had not provided information about the third person aboard.

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Robinson R44 and said it went down in the water east of Miami Executive Airport at about 11:15 a.m. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it was called at 11:26 a.m. to a crash near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.
