Trump Says He Is "Not Even a Little Bit" Worried About Impeachment, Warns It Would "Destroy" Democratic Party

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he was "not even a little bit" worried about the prospect of another impeachment after Democrats won control of Congress in the midterm elections.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said an impeachment effort would hurt Democrats rather than weaken him. "I think it would destroy the Democratic Party if they did that," he said.

Trump rejected the idea that there were grounds to impeach him, saying: "Impeachment for no reason. What? For having a successful country?" He made the comments while showing reporters construction of the White House ballroom.

Some Democratic lawmakers have called for impeachment, but House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has stopped short of promising proceedings. He has said Democrats would follow the evidence and constitutional requirements before deciding whether to pursue that step.

The House can impeach a president by a simple majority, but removing a president from office requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate. An impeachment vote in the House does not itself remove a president.

Trump was impeached twice during his first term and acquitted by the Senate both times. His latest comments signal that he plans to fight any renewed impeachment push as Democrats prepare for the next Congress.
