President Donald Trump announced Friday that Stephen Miller will become White House chief of staff on Monday, November 9, replacing Susie Wiles.

Miller is currently deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser. Trump described him in his announcement as one of his most trusted advisers.

Wiles said Friday would be her last day as chief of staff. Trump said she will move to his political operation and thanked her for what he called an outstanding job.

"While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will," Wiles wrote on X, according to NBC News.

Miller has been a central figure in Trump's immigration and deportation policies. During Trump's first term, he served as an adviser and director of speechwriting, after working for Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

The announcement sets a Monday start date for Miller's new role. Neither Trump's praise for Wiles nor her statement establishes that she was fired.
