Tree trimming near cemeteries in Lakewood, Jackson and Toms River has addressed concerns affecting travel by kohanim, according to Vaad Mishmeres Kohanim of Lakewood. The Vaad announced the project's completion on October 27.

The Vaad said the work allows kohanim to use the affected stretches without relying on the halachic leniencies that had previously been needed. That assessment is the Vaad's guidance for the locations it reviewed.

The roads listed include County Line Road between Route 9 and Clifton Avenue; Ridge Avenue near East County Line Road; and Honey Locust Drive between Massachusetts Avenue and Route 9.

The project also covered Lakewood-New Egypt Road in Jackson, a route used by travelers returning from I-195, as well as Old Freehold Road and Route 166 in Toms River.

The Vaad credited assistance from Lakewood Township's R' Menashe Miller, Ocean County Commissioner R' Shmuel Ellenbogen, Roads Department supervisor Art Reece and the county road crew. Township officials also assisted with trimming on Clifton Avenue and Courtney Road near Bais Faiga.
