Taco Bell's same-store sales fell 4 percent in its most recent quarter as the chain absorbed the impact of a foodborne illness outbreak, parent company Yum Brands reported Tuesday.

Health authorities declared the outbreak over last month, reports say, and the company's chief executive said Taco Bell's U.S. sales growth has outpaced the wider quick-service restaurant industry since the end of September.

For the quarter ended September 30, Taco Bell's U.S. same-store sales fell 4 percent while international sales rose 5 percent. Yum Brands reported total net sales of $2.05 billion, up 4 percent, and adjusted earnings of $1.56 per share, above the $1.49 analysts had expected, reports say.
