SpaceX has selected Qualcomm to provide technology for the ground-based network behind Starlink Mobile, a planned service intended to connect ordinary smartphones directly to satellites. The companies announced the multiyear agreement Wednesday, November 4.

Qualcomm will supply its Dragonwing 5G platform for base stations and related equipment. The technology is intended to help SpaceX build a terrestrial network that works alongside its satellite system.

The planned rollout is expected to begin in 2027. The announcement sets out a future deployment, not a claim that a new nationwide service is already available to customers.

Starlink Mobile is designed to provide cellular connectivity directly to standard mobile phones, including in areas where conventional coverage is limited. SpaceX's agreement with Qualcomm focuses on infrastructure for that effort.

The deal brings Qualcomm's cellular-network technology into SpaceX's plans to expand beyond its existing satellite internet business. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The companies have not announced a consumer price or a final nationwide launch date through this agreement. The 2027 target describes the expected start of rollout rather than a guarantee that every customer or location will have service then.
