Report: Anthropic Strikes $3.4 Billion Deal for Gas-Fired Data-Center Generators

By Reuven1 min read · 28m ago

Anthropic has struck a deal worth about $3.4 billion to secure gas-fired generators for its data centers, the Financial Times reported Sunday.

The company bought commitments for 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty generators in late September from OnePWR Solutions, a San Antonio-based equipment supplier, according to the report. The agreement also included engineering and construction capabilities needed to install the equipment.

The reported deal is not an acquisition of OnePWR. The Financial Times said Anthropic did not buy the company and that none of its employees moved to the AI startup.

Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. Anthropic and OnePWR did not respond to its requests for comment.

The agreement would add power capacity as demand for Anthropic's Claude AI models grows. The reported generator commitments do not mean the equipment has already been installed or that 1.7 gigawatts of new power is currently operating.
