OpenAI Hires Former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll for National Security Role
OpenAI said Monday that former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is joining the company in a newly created role advising on how advanced AI can strengthen national security, with a particular focus on U.S. allies.

OpenAI on Monday announced that former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is joining the company as Senior Counselor for National Security Modernization, a newly created role.
Driscoll will work with OpenAI's senior leadership and external partners to advise on how advanced AI can strengthen national and cyber security, with a particular focus on working with U.S. allies to advance its responsible use, the company said. He will also help internal OpenAI teams understand the operational needs of national security institutions.
Driscoll served as the 26th Secretary of the Army, overseeing operations, modernization and resources for nearly one million Active, Guard and Reserve soldiers and more than 265,000 Army civilians. A former Army officer, he also served as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
"I'm joining OpenAI to help the United States and our allies put this technology to work responsibly, for the people who keep us safe," Driscoll said in the announcement.
