New York health officials on Monday announced the state's first known measles-associated death in more than 30 years, a child in Lewis County connected to the ongoing outbreak.

The State Department of Health said the death was associated with the measles outbreak in Lewis County, in northern New York. Officials did not release the child's age, name, vaccination status or date of death, and the announcement did not say when the child died.

As of October 24, New York had reported 178 measles cases, 170 of them outside New York City and eight in the city. Officials have not released a newer statewide count.

The announcement marks the first known measles-associated death in New York State in more than three decades.
