Karl Bushby finishes 28-year walk from Chile, arrives home in Hull

Karl Bushby, a 57-year-old former paratrooper, arrived back in his home town of Hull, England, on Monday, finishing a walk that began in Punta Arenas, Chile, 28 years ago.
Reports say the journey covered about 36,000 miles through 29 countries. He crossed the Humber Bridge into Hull on Sunday, the same date he set off in 1998, and was welcomed by a crowd in the city's Queen Victoria Square.
Bushby set himself two rules: not to return home until he had completed the journey, and not to use transport to advance. He was greeted by his mother, Angela, and told the crowd, "It's been a while."
He is described as the first person to walk continuously across the world. The route took him across the frozen Bering Strait and through the Darien Gap in Central America.
