Kamala Harris has agreed to participate in the ABC News debate against Donald Trump, despite concerns that the format will “disadvantage” her. The format, similar to the one used in the CNN debate between Trump and Joe Biden, could limit Harris’s ability to interrupt or engage directly with Trump.
“Vice President Harris, will be fundamentally disadvantaged by this format, which will serve to shield Donald Trump from direct exchanges with the Vice President,” said the Harris campaign. They worry that this setup might prevent Harris from effectively challenging Trump.
Despite these concerns, Harris’s team decided to move forward with the debate to avoid the risk of Trump skipping it. “Notwithstanding our concerns, we understand that Donald Trump is a risk to skip the debate altogether, as he has threatened to do previously, if we do not accede to his preferred format. We do not want to jeopardize the debate,” the campaign added.
