The Justice Department on Monday announced charges involving 63 individuals in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration and related election crimes across the country.

The department said four of those charged were in the country illegally, while many of the named defendants are lawful permanent residents. The cases include voting by foreign nationals in federal elections, false claims of U.S. citizenship to register to vote or to vote, and the fraudulent submission of a voter registration application in another state. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

"Today's announcement marks the largest surge of voter-fraud arrests since President Trump returned to office," Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement.

According to the department, 195 foreign nationals have been charged across 25 states with illegal voting and registration offenses in the last nine weeks, and 239 people have been charged with voting fraud-related offenses since the beginning of the administration.

The cases span federal districts including Georgia, Texas, Maryland and North Carolina, with several of the alleged votes cast in the 2024 election or earlier. Individual complaints and arrests in some of the cases preceded Monday's announcement.
