I-287 Southbound Lane Closures Set for Two Nights in Morris County
NJDOT says at least two lanes will stay open during overnight work Thursday and Friday, with a long-term shoulder closure to follow near the Hanover Avenue Bridge.

Overnight lane closures are scheduled on I-287 southbound Thursday and Friday as a bridge replacement project moves forward in Hanover and Morris Township, Morris County, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Two right lanes are scheduled to close from 8 p.m. Thursday, October 29, until 6 a.m. Friday, October 30, so crews can remove construction barriers before a traffic shift. At least two lanes will remain open overnight.
A second round of two-lane closures is scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday, October 30, until 6 a.m. Saturday, October 31. Crews will restripe the road and place barriers beneath the Hanover Avenue Bridge, between mileposts 37.6 and 37.2. Work is expected to start in the two right lanes before moving to the two left lanes, with at least two lanes maintained.
By 6 a.m. Saturday, all southbound lanes are expected to reopen with traffic shifted to the right. The left shoulder will remain closed, a pattern expected to stay in place through spring 2027 for bridge pier repairs and other improvements.
The work is part of a $17.5 million federally funded project to replace the concrete deck of the Hanover Avenue/County Route 650 Bridge over I-287. The project also includes drainage, lighting, signs, fencing, sidewalks and accessible curb ramps, with construction expected to finish in spring 2028.
NJDOT advises drivers to slow down, use caution and expect delays. The timing may change because of weather or other factors. Drivers can check 511NJ for current conditions. The department's October 29 announcement details the planned closures.
