Authorities Release 911 Call From Father Who Stopped Oregon School Shooter
The newly released call captures Kaylub Giamanco alerting a dispatcher before he entered Silver Rail Elementary School during the October 15 attack in Bend.

Authorities in Oregon released a 911 call Tuesday made by the father who fatally shot a gunman during last month's attack at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend.
Kaylub Giamanco called as he approached the school on October 15 after seeing a person with a gun. In the recording, he tells the dispatcher that someone is at his daughter's school with a firearm and says he has a gun himself.
The dispatcher asks him to explain what happened, tells him not to act and says an officer will be sent. Giamanco repeatedly names the school, reports that the gunman is inside and identifies the south side of the building. He then tells the dispatcher that the attacker is shooting.
The call lasts about 79 seconds, and portions of Giamanco's words are difficult to hear. Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that the recording largely supports the account he gave the outlet in an interview last month, while noting that not every statement he recalled is audible on the released tape.
Giamanco entered the school and fatally shot the 16-year-old attacker. The gunman had killed four people. The newly released recording concerns that October 15 attack; it does not describe a new shooting Tuesday.
Deschutes County released the audio, and The Associated Press said it obtained the call through a public-records request. The recording provides a brief account of the emergency as it unfolded, ending while the dispatcher says help is on the way.
