American Airlines and Citi announced Tuesday that two of their co-branded credit cards will carry a higher annual fee starting early next year, paired with a package of new travel and everyday-spending benefits.
The annual fee on the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the Citi / AAdvantage Business World Elite Mastercard will rise to $150 from $99, effective January 24, 2027. It is the first fee increase on the cards since 2018, when the fee went from $95 to $99.
What Cardholders Get in Return
The refreshed Platinum Select card, designed for occasional travelers, adds up to a $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit every four years, up to $100 back in statement credits annually on inflight purchases, and a complimentary Walmart+ membership. Cardmembers will earn 3X AAdvantage miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings, 2X miles at gas stations - now including EV charging - and 2X miles on select streaming services and eligible rideshare and rail purchases. The American Airlines Flight Discount grows to $150 from $125 after $20,000 or more in purchases during a cardmembership year and renewal.
The Business card adds 3X miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings, 2X miles in one self-select category of the cardmember's choice - U.S. shipping providers, office supply stores or U.S. advertising services - the same Global Entry/TSA PreCheck and inflight purchase credits, and 25% off a Melio subscription plan for managing business payments.
The companies said the refresh is meant to better reflect how members live, spend and travel today, with the new benefits aimed at everyday spending as well as travel.
Existing perks are staying, including a first checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries, preferred boarding, and no foreign transaction fees.
The increase follows similar moves across the industry, as airlines and their bank partners - including United Airlines, American Express and Chase - have steadily raised annual fees on rewards cards in recent years.
More details on the refreshed cards are on Citi's official pages for the Platinum Select card and the Business card.
