Today, on the 25th of Sivan, is the Yahrtzeit of Chazzan Yossele Rosenblatt ZL, The Yiddishe Caruso (1882-1933).

Reb Yossele Rosenblatt, born in Bila Tserkva, Russian Empire, is recognized as the greatest chazzan of his generation. Despite lacking formal musical training, his extraordinary talent was evident from a young age, leading to a career that spanned Europe and America.

At 17, he davened in Vienna’s largest shuls and soon toured the Austro-Hungarian empire. He held esteemed positions in Hungary, Germany, and the United States, earning the title “The Yiddishe Caruso” and a role in the 1927 film “The Jazz Singer.”

Rosenblatt’s legacy continues to inspire, celebrated for his unparalleled contributions to Jewish liturgical music until his petirah in Yerushalayim.
