WHEN:
- The brachah should preferably be made in the month of Nissan’ (up until and including the first day of Rosh Chodesh Iyar’).
- Some say it can be made in Iyar too’, but it’s not preferable’.
- The brachah can be said at night as long as the buds can be seen’.
- The brachah can be made through a window, too’.
- There’s a disagreement if the brachah can be made on Shabbos’.
- The brachah should be made the first time the tree is seen’.
- There’s a disagreement if the brachah can be made after not making it the first time the tree was seen’. One can rely on the lenient opinions that permit making the brachah the second time’.
- It is preferable to make the brachah with a minyan’. The minhag is, though, that it’s made even without a minyan.
WHAT TYPE OF TREE:
- Although, some say the brachah should be made on two trees’. The minhag is to make it even on one tree’.
- The ideal is to make the brachah on a tree outside of the city’. The minhag is to make it even on a tree inside the city’.
- The tree must be fruit-bearing’.
- The tree has to actually have fruit starting to grow on it, or at least have flowers’.
- If the fruits are already ripe, then the brachah can’t be made’.
- It is preferable not to make the brachah on a tree of Orlah’.
- The brachah can’t be made on a grafted tree’.
- It’s debatable if a brachah can be made on a tree in a flower pot. If there is a hole in the bottom of the pot, then a brachah can be made’.
