חזון ישעיהו בן אמוץ (ישעי’ א’, א’)
This Shabbos is called שבת חזון because the Haftorah begins with the words חזון
.ישעיהו This Haftorah is always read on the Shabbos that precedes .תשעה באב
The Navie reminds us that it is not enough to mourn for the destruction of the בית
המקדש but that we also must remember the reasons why it was destroyed, and
only after we realize our mistakes, and accept upon ourselves to follow the Torah
ways, will we merit the coming of משיח and the building of the third בית המקדש.
Similarly theנתיבות in his sefer פלגי מים explains the reason that we read מגילת
איכה on Tisha Bav is not just to mourn for all the pain and suffering the Jewish
people suffered during the destruction of the first and second Bais Hamikdosh,
but rather to understand the reasons for their destruction, so that we can change
our ways, and be Zoicha to the building of the third Bais Hamikdosh.
The Gemorah in מועד קטן tells us that ירמי’ הנביא wrote מגילת איכה before the
actual destruction, and gave it to the king of Yehuda, in order to inspire כלל ישראל
to תשובה. However instead of doing תשובה, the king became angry and burnt
מגילת איכה. So Hashem told ירמי’ הנביא to write it again, but this time he should
add many more Pesukim to it. Unfortunately because כלל ישראל did not listen to
the warning of ירמי’ הנביא the Bais Hamikdosh was destroyed.
Let’s hope that this will be our last Tishah Bav in גלות, and very soon we will
rejoice in the building of the third Bais Hamikdosh.
