Stellantis Recalls 1.5 Million Ram Pickup Trucks Due to Software Issue

Stellantis is recalling 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks due to a software defect that could disable the vehicles’ electronic stability control (ESC) system. The ESC is a key safety feature that helps drivers maintain control of their vehicle, especially during skidding or loss of traction.

The problem, which affects the anti-lock brake software, can cause the ESC to shut down unexpectedly. However, Stellantis reassured drivers that the trucks’ brakes will still function, and no injuries or accidents have been reported due to the issue.

This recall affects Ram pickup models from 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, primarily in North America. Federal regulations require ESC systems to be operational during all driving phases, leading to the recall.

Owners of affected trucks will be notified by mail starting October 3, 2024, and the issue can be repaired at no cost at authorized dealerships. Drivers are also advised to check their vehicle identification numbers (VIN) on Ram’s recall page to see if their truck is included in the recall.
