SpaceX has significantly grown its Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi business, nearly doubling its backlog with a landmark deal from United Airlines. United plans to retrofit more than 1,000 of its aircraft with Starlink, offering passengers free Wi-Fi, and pushing out current providers such as Viasat and Panasonic.
Starlink is expanding rapidly into the in-flight connectivity market, having previously secured deals with airlines like Hawaiian, Qatar Airways, and JSX.
SpaceX is working to streamline the installation process, reducing aircraft downtime to under a day, and is consistently increasing the capacity of its satellite constellation, which now includes over 6,400 satellites in orbit.
