Approximately three weeks prior to Lag B’Omer, the Israeli Defense Forces have advised against holding this year’s Lag B’Omer event in Meron due to escalating security threats.

Recent incidents, including multiple rocket attacks by Hezbollah on Har Meron, have heightened concerns. The past Motzei Shabbos saw Hezbollah launching numerous rockets towards Har Meron, some impacting roads leading to the tzion of the Rashbi. Over the past months, there have been hundreds of rocket launches targeting the Air Force control base on Har Meron.

Due to these security challenges, the Meron site is set to be designated a closed military zone during Lag B’Omer, scheduled for May 25th-26th. The enforcement will involve both the Israel Police and military personnel.

An official within the war cabinet emphasized the decision, stating, “There won’t be a hillula this year on Lag B’Omer in Meron. No one will take the risk of rocket launches at Meron while thousands are celebrating there.”

Reports indicate that senior officials in Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office have advised against preparations for the hillula, citing the security situation.
