Schnall Bill Expanding Use of Urban Enterprise Zone Funds Signed Into Law

Assemblyman Avi Schnall (D-30) announced today that Governor Phil Murphy has signed into law A-4534/S-3439, which expands the scope of the Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) program.

The new law allows UEZ funds to be used for transportation infrastructure projects. The 30th District is set to be a major beneficiary of the expanded UEZ program, which has been instrumental in driving economic growth and development in the district.

“The expansion of the UEZ program is a game-changer for our district,” said Assemblyman Avi Schnall. “Allowing these funds to be used for essential transportation infrastructure services not only strengthens the local economy but also directly enhances the quality of life for our residents. This legislation will make a tangible difference in our communities, and I am proud to have played a role in getting it across the finish line.”

Assemblyman Schnall also expressed his gratitude to those who helped champion the bill through the legislative process. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin for his leadership in moving this bill forward and to Governor Phil Murphy for signing it into law today. I also want to recognize and thank Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly for originally introducing this critical piece of legislation. This is a true testament to what can be achieved when we work together to support New Jersey’s communities.”

The Urban Enterprise Zone program has long provided economic incentives to businesses in designated areas, including reduced sales tax rates and grants to support business growth. With the passage of A-4534/S-3439, municipalities can now apply these funds to broader initiatives that serve the needs of residents and businesses alike.

Assemblyman Schnall emphasized that the bill will have an immediate and lasting impact. “Our communities need reliable transportation infrastructure to thrive. This law gives us the tools we need to make strategic investments that will benefit everyone in the 30th District. I’m excited to see the positive outcomes this will bring to our residents and local businesses.”
