Thousands of AT&T and Verizon customers across the United States experienced a significant outage on June 4, affecting the ability to make 911 calls and causing widespread communication issues. The disruptions began around noon and escalated in the following hours.
According to DownDetector, at least 24 states, including North Dakota, Illinois, and New York, reported problems. Affected users experienced dropped calls, lack of internet connectivity, and difficulties hearing the other party during calls. The outage has been linked to issues with both mobile and landline internet services.
AT&T’s outage appears more widespread, affecting cities such as Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Meanwhile, Verizon’s issues are concentrated in the Northeast, including New York and Boston, with additional reports from Chicago, Detroit, and Seattle.
The root cause of the disruptions remains unclear. Both companies have engaged with frustrated customers on social media, offering to investigate the issues through direct messages.
