A heroic act of selflessness in the aftermath of a tragic battlefield injury, as Eitan Aviner from Yitzhar donated his kidney to Avichai Moula, a company commander in the IDF’s Givati Brigade, who was gravely injured by a Hamas grenade on October 7. The attack caused Moula’s kidneys to fail, prompting an urgent search for a donor.
Aviner, stepped forward to be tested and was found to be a perfect match among 3,400 potential donors. At the hospital, the families of the donor and recipient met and embraced, sharing an emotional moment of gratitude and hope.
“I figured, maybe this is the time to donate a kidney,” Aviner reflected, revealing that the thought had previously crossed his mind. His decision ultimately gave Moula a renewed chance at life, with both men now recovering at home after the successful surgery.
Fun fact: The Yitzhar Yishuv in the Shomron leads all cities, towns and settlements in Israel in kidney donations per capita. Here’s one example that demonstrates their extremism when it comes to Chessed.
