Guatemala’s Attorney General María Consuelo Porras Argueta and Supreme Court President Teódulo Ildefonso Cifuentes Maldonado met with representatives of the international Jewish community to discuss concerns surrounding the Lev Tahor sect. The ultra-Orthodox group, often referred to as the “Jewish Taliban,” has been accused of severe human rights abuses, including child abuse, forced marriages, and financial exploitation of its members.
During the meeting, officials and Jewish leaders examined the sect’s activities in Guatemala and explored ways to protect its members while preventing further violations. Lev Tahor has been under investigation in multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, and Israel, due to its alleged ties to organized crime and reports of extreme isolationist practices.
The discussion included high-ranking Guatemalan officials from the Attorney General’s Office and the Supreme Court, highlighting the seriousness of the concerns surrounding the group. Authorities aim to take necessary steps to address these issues and ensure the safety of those affected by the sect’s controversial practices.
Meanwhile in Boro Park the Rebbes and Roshei Yeshivos gathered to discuss the terrible situation going on with the Lev Tahor cult in Guatemala.
