Freight and Logistics Industry Hit Hard: Over 1,300 Layoffs Across the US

With layoffs continuing to ripple through the freight and logistics sector, companies in various states are announcing significant job cuts and facility closures.

Universal Logistics based in Warren, Michigan, is shuttering two subsidiaries, resulting in 677 job losses. The closures of Logistics Insights Corp. and Universal Dedicated of Detroit will affect various roles, including truck drivers, warehouse workers, forklift operators, dockworkers, and clerical staff.

Similarly, Swissport Cargo Services is shedding 235 jobs in Atlanta after losing a contract with Amazon. This follows a previous announcement of 378 job cuts at Newark Liberty International Airport for the same reason.

The Kroger Co. is also slashing over 230 jobs and shutting down delivery hubs in San Antonio, Austin, and Miami. These facilities were part of the Kroger Fulfillment Network, serving e-commerce grocery delivery customers.

Additionally, RXO Logistics is laying off 114 employees in Warren, Michigan, while Nosco Inc. is closing a facility in Carrollton, Texas, leading to 51 job losses.

Ryder Integrated Logistics is downsizing by 29 workers in Romeoville, Illinois, due to the loss of a customer contract.

These layoffs highlight the challenges facing the industry, from contract losses to operational adjustments. With over 1,300 job cuts, the repercussions are significant for workers and communities across the country.
