eBay’s shares surged 9% after Meta revealed plans to feature select eBay listings on its popular Facebook Marketplace platform. The integration, which will start with a test phase in the United States, Germany, and France, allows buyers to view listings on Marketplace while completing transactions on eBay.
This partnership is expected to provide a much-needed boost to eBay’s marketplace business, which has faced tough competition from Amazon, Walmart, Temu, and even Facebook’s own platform. By increasing exposure for its sellers, eBay aims to enhance customer engagement and loyalty.
For Meta, the move is seen as a step toward addressing concerns from the European Commission, which previously fined the company €797 million for tying Marketplace to its main Facebook app. Meta expressed its commitment to working constructively to resolve regulatory issues while maintaining a strong presence in online classifieds.
