Beginning November 1, new phone numbers in the West Hollywood area will be assigned the 738 area code, adding to the existing 323 and 213 area codes. The new code will serve downtown Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Glendale, Inglewood, and other surrounding cities. Those who already have phone numbers with the 323 and 213 area codes will not see any changes to their service, coverage, or pricing.

The 213 area code, created in 1947, was one of California’s original area codes and has since been split multiple times to accommodate population growth. Between 1951 and 1998, the 213 code led to the creation of five additional area codes, including the 323, 818, and 310. In 2017, the boundary between the 213 and 323 area codes was removed, creating an overlay area that now includes the new 738 code.
