Palm Beach Mayor Danielle Moore is contemplating the potential closure of Mar-a-Lago, which could require former President Donald Trump to vacate his residence at the estate. The mayor’s consideration comes in the wake of heightened security measures implemented by the Secret Service, which included the closure of South Ocean Boulevard, the main road adjacent to Mar-a-Lago, following an assassination attempt on Trump in Butler on July 13.

Mayor Moore remarked, “In my mind, if the road is closed, the Mar-a-Lago Club is closed… You can’t have it both ways, boys and girls.” The road closure, expected to last at least until Election Day, presents what the mayor sees as an opportunity to shut down Mar-a-Lago during this period.

The increased security presence and road closure have sparked concerns among local community members regarding their safety. Council Member Julie Araskog emphasized that the situation has left residents feeling unsafe, stating, “Our residents don’t feel safe right now.” As a result, she has directed the Town Council to investigate whether it is feasible to keep Mar-a-Lago closed until the road is reopened. This decision is seen as a way to address the community’s concerns while also considering the implications of prolonged security measures in the area.
