Biden Signs Executive Order to Temporarily Close Southern Border for Asylum Requests

U.S. President Joe Biden has signed an executive order today which will temporarily close the southern border between the United States and Mexico for asylum requests once daily encounters by Customs and Border Patrol reach 2,500.

The order goes into immediate effect due to Tuesday’s encounters already surpassing the cap. The border will reopen, and asylum requests will resume once the number of daily encounters falls below 1,500.
