Amazon Will Launch 27 Kuiper Satellites Into Low Earth Orbit

Amazon is preparing to begin its full-scale deployment of Project Kuiper’s internet network by launching the first 27 satellites of a constellation that will eventually include more than 3,200. During next week’s KA-01 mission, the 27 satellites will launch aboard a powerful United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, deploy at 280 miles above the Earth, then ascend to their operational altitude of 392 miles up.

This initial mission is a critical step toward Project Kuiper’s goal of delivering fast, reliable broadband to customers around the world later this year. With dozens more launches planned, Amazon is poised to dramatically expand global internet access through its low Earth orbit satellite network.
