Halacha on Gifts: For a Mitzvahs or Wedding Contributions

Hating gifts does not apply when it comes to parents and children, or when there is a mitzvah involved (e.g., shalom bayis, kiruv, keeping the peace).

Receiving gifts when making a wedding is a way for people to help pay for their participation. (Shevet Halevi 6:229, Teshav Vihanahagos 3:404)
